Antiq.Info #70 (November 2008)

Dear readers!
Today we can sum up the first results of the autumn season. Unfortunately it is a difficult period for the art market. The financial crisis which affected all the countries of the world resulted in this sphere also. However, as the results of the last fairs and auctions show the art market hardly will follow the way of stock exchanges. Because art is a special matter, as they say — art is long. People had reasons to turn to it in difficult periods of the history as to one of the most reliable way of investment. Crisis and investments in art — you can read about this current topic for today on pages of the next issue of Antiq.Info.
Traditionally November is a month of Russian sales. A series of auctions representing all the variety of Russian art will be held all over the world. Sotheby’s will put up Malevich’s unique masterpiece for sale. MacDougall’s British house will represent classics of the Russian painting — Klodt, Korovin and Levitan. Russian art is of great popularity. In spite of the fact that it is a difficult period for the market of antiques today the forthcoming auctions promise to answer expectations and, as usual, to surprise the world with new unexpected records.
